I had determined that this Sussex I have is a rooster, but he still doesn't have spurs and is 32 weeks. Did I make a mistake or is this a hen with a masculine haircut? Need to know before I make chicken noodles out of one of my layers.
Can you get us a better photo? The one you posted is very small and doesn't get any bigger when I click on it. I'd also like to see one that's a close up side profile of the bird.
We were told by a breeder that spurs on a Banty comes in about 1 1/2 years of age (this may possibly be true for other breeds too.), but a roo doesn't come into real adulthood until he's about 2 years old. Hens can get spurs too.
For 8 months old you should see saddle feathers, and I aint. Are you sure its 32 weeks old? It should be laying eggs if a hen or crowing and mating by now if a rooster.
