sussex lovers post here!

This is my speckled sussex, Jenna. This was when she was four months, but now she's 6 months and started laying! I'll try to get a pic of one of her eggs soon! Her first egg had speckles on it, so i figured it was Jenna's!

All of you have really beautiful birds. My Nugget is nowhere near as pretty, but she was a hatchery bird.
Nugget keeps her beak out of bird politics. She goes about her own business, and she even sleeps on a different roost from the other three birds.

Sussex are currently my biggest interest, and the bird I want most.

I am enchanted by the speckled and I guess it's good that those are readily available in the US. A kind BYC'r near me may be able to get me hatching eggs soon and I am very excited about that! If that somehow falls through, is there a hatchery that provides good quality speckleds?

We have five SS in our mixed flock. They are reliable layers of pinky-cream-tan eggs. This summer they laid large eggs, but they're moving into smallish medium territory this fall, which stinks because we sell eggs. SS eggs are the perfect color to set off a mixed dozen with brown, blue and green eggs.

They are all different--I can tell them apart by their speckles, unlike some of my Delawares, which I can never tell apart.

They are curious, fearless and funny. Blizzard (lots and lots of biggish white speckles) is trouble at a bonfire because she sneaks up to the guests and steals their hamburgers right off their plates.

The only thing I don't like about them is that they pick feathers off their butts. My SS and my Australorps do this. My Wyandottes, Orpingtons, Delawares and EEs do not.

So .... you are greenfirefarms. I saw the youtube of your light and coronation ... got it off your response to that gentlemen who posted his "light" sussex roo in the UK. hehe.

Still hoping to get some light and coronation from you this summer. Saving my pennies, crossing my fingers for a good tax return, and buttering up the wife..
