Sussex

I am wanting to raise some hens for eggs.
My local feed store supplies the Sussex breed. I live in southern Ontario, is this a good starter breed.

I've never had them, but I bet you will enjoy them. I can't say that I've heard much bad about them as a general backyard/farmyard breed.

I really like them and think they are a good starter breed. Love the Speckled Sussex color. They are decent layers (4+ medium/large week) and usually really friendly kind birds. You might want to check out the member reviews on them https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/sussex/reviews

Sussex are usually very nice birds, and when we had adults a while back they layed fairly often. Nice, big brown eggs can be expected that make nice omelets. In general, these are great birds.
