I am wanting to raise some hens for eggs.
My local feed store supplies the Sussex breed. I live in southern Ontario, is this a good starter breed.

I've never had them, but I bet you will enjoy them. I can't say that I've heard much bad about them as a general backyard/farmyard breed.

From Henderson's Handy Dandy Chicken Chart:
well adaptable to confinement or free range; calm; gentle; active; can be curious; more easily handled
Our Birds: a few have been among our favorites for personality.

Sussex are usually very nice birds, and when we had adults a while back they layed fairly often. Nice, big brown eggs can be expected that make nice omelets. In general, these are great birds.
