There is a swan that has been frozen in the lake for two days. The ice is nowhere near safe enough to walk on, and animal control is closed until TUESDAY

I honestly won't be able to sleep tonight, any suggestions?

If the lake is frozen but not enough to walk on, what about a small boat (jon boat or canoe?) to get out there to it? Maybe you would be able to break the ice around it with oars, salt, something of that nature?

is it close enough to shore that you'd be able to toss some feed to it? It should be okay as far as the freezing until it can be freed, but I'd worry about dehydration and keeping the energy up.

Around here the police will sometimes get involved with animal rescue. Maybe call the news channel? Or is there a rescue person/group that you can maybe call? This is so sad. I hope someone can help the poor thing..

anyone have an inflatable boat? maybe you could slide out there attach the boat to a rope? and try to reach it? good luck or maybe you could call someone with a helicopter? coast guard? military? air rescue?

ohh poor thing.....hope someone can help her/him out soon. a canoe or some sort of inflatable boat would work well enough....

this made me think of something that happened to Dh and I when we first moved in, we got a second dog a black lab, that first winter the lab was about 4 months old and we were taking a nice cold back through the trails when we came upon the frozen pond, I, without even thinking about it picked up a large branch and threw it into the pond hoping it would crash through the ice but it didn't...and then I realized my mistake when my little lab ran after it and fell through the ice and couldn't get out, I was frantic, but Dh without even thinking or hesitating broke through the ice and went right to the dog and got him out, we then had to walk the 1/2 hour all the way home in his wet and super freezing cold clothes. He ended up with bronchitis, we were glad he saved the puppy though.
