Swan newbie here!

I think what J3172 was referring to is the type of mute swan. There are royals and polishes....I think you can tell them apart by their leg and feet color.

yes that's what I was talking about, The male in the back with black feet is a royal mute swan, the girl in the front is a polish mute swan. I was just saying that as most newbies don't know the difference.

When I had swans I fed them Mazuri Waterfowl food. it floats and they loved it.

Percyj, how do they imprint on me? Like the babies? They havent, but they had mom and dad swan.

Hi,
I just joined in on this conversation and noticed it's a month or so old, how are your swans doing? Are they penned up or loose on a pond? I'm a newbie too and was looking through the posts. Something I didn't see stated here is that the parents may attack the young ones when they get a little older. I read that it takes a "lot" of space to even be able to have a second pair of them to keep them from fighting. I just bought a single male mute swan and I'm looking for a female. Your little ones would be too small I'm afraid but if anyone else sees this they're welcome to PM me.
I am picking mine up next week and have 40 acres here and I still would not have more than one pair, just because. I read that even if they can see or hear the other pair there is trouble. I hope they're all doing great but unless they can be penned apart, you might want to check into this so you don't have the parents attacking the youngsters in the spring when breeding season starts again.

We just got home with the new swan, a gorgeous young male. I don't know if I'll get him another mate or not. I've read the females who lose a mate are more likely to bond with a new male. I read some males won't take another mate after theirs dies and may become aggressive. We'll see how well things go with this fella and may look for a female for him and put her on the other pond on the other side of the back yard and let them figure it out. I would expect they would find each other naturally if it's intended to work out.

I didn't find a whole lot online about their care and don't have a book yet but I did fine the dosage for wormer for them and I gave him wormer before I let him loose. It was fenbendazole, 5 mg/kg.
