hi everyone, i hope this winter hasnt been too hard on you all.
i did search the forum and couldnt anything so im starting a new thread. so last year was our first year with chickens and turkeys. we built a coop for the chickens, 8x8, and used an existing shed for our turkeys. both have large fenced in runs althought they all free ranged as well. now my thoughts this year is swapping the two coops. since my flock is out growing their current coop, and i have plans of expanding. now we did butcher our turkeys in ealry november so nothing has been down there since. although i will admit i was lazy and winter came before i got to cleaning out the pens down in that shed, including all bedding.
my question is that i have read that truekys can carry diseases/parasites that chickens can get from the soil. so i am concerened about just cleaning it out and putting them down there. i think i also read that ground should sit dormant for a few years before introducing any new livestock to the area.
is this correct or is there any measures i can take to introduce the chickens down there this spring/summer? or am i just being a new overly worried chicken momma?
