Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Aw now I see! Sorry I thought they where all the same age.

Probably my fault for that.
Sometimes I can't get good pictures. I ride around and do my chores from a big red electric wheelchair. <G>
I like those cream leg bar chickens. Been thinking about getting a rooster to throw out in the pasture with some of my Easter Egger hens. Most of them are laying olive eggs and was think I could get bluer ones with the legbar. I like a lot of color in my eggs. I finally found a Blue Marans rooster. I have him residing with my 3 Marans/Welsummer hens.
Th reason I have the SFH is a lady swapped me a 10 mos old rooster she had for 3 of my EE hens. Weren't nothing to do BUTT get some chicks.
I ordered 8 chicks, all I could afford on Social Security. They shipped 10 and only 5 made it. Another died that night. I was reimbursed for 3 of them. I really believe that all of the survivors are pullets.
They do change about every day and these seem to be doing very well.
I should be getting eggs from them in July.
Closest thing I have to a Daughter<G> lives in Georgia and just got 6 Jubilee Orpingtons yesterday. One of them had a legband inbeded in its leg. She is worried that she may have trouble getting it off. She is being reimbursed for that chick. They ain't cheap..
Sorry for all the off-topic bullscat<g>
Thanks for listening.

:woot anniesmom You did get lots of colors! Can't wait to see what pairs reproduced what colors. How exciting!!

Sounds good to me! I have 6 more that hopefully will hatch out Mondayish. I guess my current group is about 8 weeks old too. Do you have any pics??
Do you ever get over toward Bham?
I will have to try to get some current pics. I don't get over that way to often, but its not that far, and I don't really like to ship eggs so I would probably drive over to swap.

My 8 SFH chicks were 8 weeks old on Sunday Apr. 1st and one of the roos was crowing already! Early bloomer, afraid I'll have 5 more like him and only 2 hens, one is crested. She seems a bit slow in learning, she was the last chick to learn to come back up the ramp to go in the coop at dusk so I was ushering her in every night. Also last to learn to jump up on the roosts to sleep. She doesn't have a large crest that would be hindering seeing where she's going. She's bellied right up to the feeder though so guess I need not worry too much. Need to take photos to update how they look. Anybody interested in my extra roos? I'm in NW Wisconsin near Hayward.

I had one crested hen that I swore was a cockerel up until she was 10 months. I'm glad I waited to re=home my cockerels until I knew for sure. These birds don't seem to follow all the rules.

I'm with you, I swore my crested girls were cockerals too...

I'm not 100% sure the crested one IS a hen but she has a smaller comb than the 6 I'm sure are roos, although she is just as big as they are. The one I'm positive is a hen is noticable smaller than the others, has almost a smooth head with only the tiniest little indication of a comb and same with wattles.

I had a couple of layers I had to get rid of as they were aggressively pecking the chicks, just kept my one Birchen Cochin bantam named Bedelia. She'll help look after them, I hope, very motherly broody girl. so maybe I can hatch some chicks the old fashioned way
