I know someone with Mille Fleur Leghorns. Why not mix them up for variety of color. The brown leghorns are really pretty too. You won't get the friendliness of the SFH, but you'll get a ton of eggs!

Yes, I have contacted two Mille Fleur Leghorn breeders in the Bay area. Apparently MFLs are quite docile for a Leghorn, which doesn't work for me as we free-range all day and there are many dogs, raccoons, and eagles in our neighborhood. One breeder said she had a flightier line, but she can only ship eggs, not started pullets, and I don't want to deal with any cockerels. She also said MFLs don't lay quite as well as most Leghorns, by the way.

Hi everyone! I have been reading this thread for the last few days while waiting on my SFH eggs in the bator. Today is day 21 and I have my first pip...so exciting!!!! I have 5 in lockdown including the one pip. 5/23 only 8 had any development and only 5 made it to lockdown. This is my first full incubator pip and first shipped egg pip! They were an ebay impulse buy when I saw how beautiful they are. e

Mine were an impulse buy too!! Sometimes the best decisions we make are the ones we don't think about Look forward to pics!

So the Saga of Bear, finally comes to a close. I was finally able to get a picture to the lady that sent me the SFH eggs. She knew immediately what breed Bear was. He's a pure Golden Campine. Seems some of her eggs got miss marked. I really wish he was a she, but i'm pretty sure he's a he.

Here he is now, starting to feather out.

I have 6 in lockdown, but I'm so worried about them. I don't see moving or rocking. Hatch day is tomorrow.

Well glad you got that figured out! It does look a lot like a boy. Maybe she should send you some more eggs. He sure was a cute little chick. I just had 16 SFH's chicks hatch yesterday and today. They are doing great. I will post photos soon. I am officially turning off the incubator today! I think it has been running since Jan. Time for a break. Besides that all my SFH are taking a break too. I am pretty sure my DH talked them into it so I would quit hatching eggs. LOL

She finally agreed to send me more eggs after she realized I'm not some crazy chicken lady just trying to get free eggs. I did however sell my incubator after my last hatch in thinking I was done hatching till after Christmas. Guess we'll be buying a new bator sooner then we thought!
