Swedish Flower Hen Thread

well, cross fingers, I've got more sfh from Bulldogma hatching today & tomorrow too possibly. plus some dark Cornish (bulldogma's too), and some of my own lf blrw and bantam mille fleur cochins. 8) gotta say I love those calico colorations. LOL

Swedish flower hens can sure throw you for a loop with their slow maturation, especially with the cockerels. While I thought I had three pullets, it appears that my blue-based SFH is now finally starting to get some size to the comb and growing wattles.

This picture was taken April 24 and it was 5 and a half weeks old.

Taken today at 8 weeks of age.

This one is doing the raised hackles showdown with my new black-based SFH roo I got from Bulldogma. So it appears that I have a crested brown/red/white pullet and a crested speckled red/white pullet and a blue-based roo and a black-based roo.

Bulldogma, I candled the 6 eggs I got from you and five are definately fertile with veining and mobile embryos. Thanks again!

Ok. Newbie question. How do you know an egg is fertile. What do you see?
you crack a egg open and you will find a bulls eye kind of of white on the yolk not to be confused with the blood spot its just a little raises round white spot on the yolk of the egg at least that's how I do it now under candling I will let one of the experts explain that lol

Beautiful babies!!!
