Swedish Flower Hen Thread

No problem. I'm bidding on eggs from Duemig10 right now... my bid is holding and the auction is getting down to the wire... I'm hoping I'll have some babies of my own soon!

So pretty. They are coming along nicely.

Yes, that one looks like a boy. It's comb and wattles are very red for 9 weeks. My 20 week girls aren't that red.

According to the BBS genetic chart I found black x splash would get 100% blue. Problem is that our "black" boys are only just mostly black. They also have white and red. The "splash" girls have tiny bits of red on their chests. The only way to find out is to do it and see what we get. I am thinking of doing "black" x "black" and then put the two "splash" pullets with white/red and light gray/white cockerels. Next year will be fun!!!

(The chick in the Avatar is one of my "splashes". As you can see she was pale yellow with a very light gray back and stripe + spot on her head.)

Yes, more Swedish Flower Hen owners! How exciting! Out of all chicken breeds I have had watched "grown up", the SFH are my favorite. I just love the way the feathers grow in and change! They live up to the flower part of their name, they "blossom."

These chicks were hatched out from Duemig10's eggs. #2 was a late comer & a wee bit smaller
than the others, but is doing well.

I have 6 new ones:

Your birds are beautiful Contrastphoto! Plenty of speckles and color in that bunch!
I'm not guessing at the bird in question. Red, yet not very big, comb and wattles. The verdict is still out.
Regarding the breeding...you could certainly make sure that they are included in your breeding program. I don't think you need to "only" breed her to the black.
Just depends on how crazy you plan going next Spring! lol
