actually, sorry to bust your bubble, but it is molded, not blown. I have the same one in clear glass here. dates from sometime in the 50's I think, they came in a variety of colors, both milk glass and clear. and yup. does look sfh. my friend Russ's wife has a cobalt blue one I'd love to have, but I think dead bodies would have to be involved for that to happen. LOLHad to share -
DH took me to an estate sale today just for fun... to cheer me up. The man that passed used to run a country store than had been in his family for 100+ years, so the antiques there were just amazing! I took pictures.
We sat down to watch the auction (so fun!) and they brought up an item I hadn't seen while walking around... but when I saw it just before it went up, I had to have it. No, understand - I'm not the kind of girl who ever has to have knick-knacks or little dishes. I could only see it from a distance, but really, really wanted it!
I only bid up to $10 (which is about $10 more than I would normally spend on an item that wasn't a necessity) but when I stopped bidding, DH jumped in and won it for $15.
It wasn't until it was in my hands that I realized it looks just like a crested Swedish Flower Hen!
It seems to be an antique, and is hand-blown Jadite glass. My grandparents used to have some jadite egg holders (my grandmother is currently 104... and a quarter. LOL!)
Now that you mention it, I have a young rooster that I thought I was going to have to cull because he had a wonky comb but the older he gets (approx. 9 wks. now) the more it is not so wonky and now I think he is going to be crested. I think there are some pics of him in my profile. I am new to all of this but it makes me glad I didn't cull him earlier! My experience with crested is that they don't start showing until week 4 or 5. Mine have at that point gotten a few pinfeathers that pop up. the slight s curve in the comb at that point alerts me to crest. all my crested hens haev a little curve. is this true for everyone? inquiring minds....
In my experience most crests start showing at 2 1/2 to 3 weeks of age, although I have had a few that were noticeable very shortly after hatching. Most of my crested birds also have the S curved combs, but not all. My original crested rooster had a beautiful strait combQuestion about crested chicks. THe crest is not as noticeable as a polish or other top at birth correct? I had a yellow chick hatch with a very distant puff on its head. The other that I hatched 12weeks ago weren't noticeable until 2 weeks. Do you think swedish or a mistake on the sellers part?
When you go to the "Reply" section, under "Content" in the Tool Bar you will see a picture next to a film strip. Click on the picture and it will bring up an upload box, and you can choose photos that you have saved to add to your post. I think you have to have a certain number of posts before posting pictures as well, but I think it is 10 posts so you should be OK there. Good luck!wow....they are soooo beautiful. thanks for sharing such wonderful pics...wish i knew how to share pics of my girlies on here?!

were they raised with other chickens or by themselves? that has a lot to do with it. some of my birds had to learn to forage, others figured it out pretty quickly, and even a few just never 'got it'. mine are great foragers, but then my dorkings are king of foraging and the sfh learned from the best.I have 2 Swedish Flower pullets. One is crested, the other is not. The crested one is smaller and much friendlier then the non-crested. It is kind of cute though, the non-crested is probably twice as big as the other and she watches out for the little one. I had a second crested one, but she became ill and dies. I just cried and cried! She was incredibly sweet as well. Both birds are adorable and curious animals.
One thing I've noticed.. they don't seem to have any interest in eating bugs or anything other then their chicken feed. They are still pretty young, do you think they will eventually want to eat anything else?
