Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I listed my little guy on CL. Hope someone takes him and doesn't eat him. He is too pretty for that! I picked up 4 Icelandics when I got him and am pretty sure that 2 of them are boys too odds, being what they are. Hmmmm maybe I should found a home for Nordic Roosters.

Those SFH were from me

. Im addicted to hatching but I live in the city and already have too many chickens. I almost always give chicks away for free but those eggs cost so much! I sold you yours then 3 weeks later I still had chicks left, no one was buying them and really need to get rid of them I listed them for free. I'm sorry you think yours might be a roo, can you post a better pic of its comb? I did pick the one out for you with the smallest comb and daintiest legs but at 2 weeks old, its still just guessing.
I understand that, mostly mad at myself for not making my mother in law come get more hahaha, especially the blrws!the wattles and comb aren't red or pink just big so I am not sure it is a roo. Just seemed to be growing a big comb and wattles but they haven't gotten any color in a week or more. Its got very pretty coloring :)

Hello! I'm in texas and could use any swf, hens you have. I have plenty of roo's eight or twelve extra and they need mates. I love them. My chickens come from all over, even from sweden, which I remembered which one. I would appreciate a reply. Almost retired there about 30 years ago, but a volcano decided to keep me south. I have all the money for sh and ha but not much for the chickens. Thank you for reading this and I will put up a new coop and will let them run as part of my menangeree Thank you! Paul

Howdy Paul unfortunately I don't have any extra until next spring. I doubt I will get a broody in August. People on this forum have eggs for sale probalby your best bet. Also all those guys you have will jump any poor hen you get. It is not a pretty sight.

Sverige! Kan vi traffas igen nagon solig dag.

so I have a bit of a delima! Besides the fact I have 3 broody girls. 1 of my girls abandoned her eggs, so I took them and put them in the incubator and they're all growing. My problem is that, they're all at different stages. How do I know when to do lockdown? I have no idea when she started sitting on them, because she wasn't a dedicated broody when she started she would sit on random nests until finally she abandoned these eggs and joined another brooder on her nest. That's where she's remained.
having a separate hatcher comes in handy for situations like that... I just candled daily, noticed when drawdown was (air cell gets noticeably larger overnight), and moved them to the hatcher. usually pip is within 24-48 hours of drawdown.

my dates were off tho, the first one actually hatched in the incubator because I wasn't looking for anything for a few more days (I thought). LOL

I GOT 2 EGGS TODAY!!! WHOOO HOOOO

Yay!!!!! How old are your girls?

When my kiddos were 18 weeks old, I thought one of them was laying and I mentioned it here on the thread. I wanted to update to say that if she really WAS laying, it was only a very few and I haven't seen anything since. They're now 22 weeks old. I thought I should be seeing some around the end of June and that's what I'm still looking for.

Perhaps the eggs I saw were "not the norm" for one of my older girls. They were very different in color and size from any of their normal eggs...but I just have a hard time believing that one of the sfh girls laid those eggs.

So...now the watch is on for the end of June!
