Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Rowen has arrived and thanks to Lindsey.....he is in the quarantine pen for a couple of weeks, then off to meet Amelia.

Amelia (from Greenfire)

I will also give him a splash hen as well. He is very gentle and a beautiful rooster. Thanks!

Here is my latest hatch (yesterday). They are all supposed to be for sale, but I may have to keep a couple just to see what color they turn out.

Just catching up...do I see some dark gray/blacks in there?

Some good & sad news with my SFH's today. The pullet on the left (blond), Johanna, I discovered today is going broody & 14 of the 16 eggs I set in the incubator are developing nicely, so hopefully between the broody & the bator I'll have some nice chicks come out. The sad news was the pullet on the left, Yvonne, I found dead this evening. She was fine yesterday & I didn't notice anything unusual this morning, but I didn't pay real close attention this morning because today was not the SFH day for free range. I hated to loose her, have no idea what happened to her. There was no visible signs of injury or illness. She was such a pretty girl with her chocolate crest. Maybe some of the eggs in the bator will be from her & I'll get one look like her...

Awww... so sorry for your loss! Wishing you a great hatch.

I'm trying to get everything caught up on the farm so I can have my NPIP testing done. I will have the AI and MG testing done at the same time. But I haven't looked at the new requirements to ship to VA, so not sure it will be enough. How close are you to another state?
A few hours from the boarder of TN or if we cut through the mountains on 460 we could hit 77 around Princeton, KY in about 90 minutes(ish) from ki4got's place.

Quote: i'm not. it's just interesting tho that I ship eggs everywhere and get eggs from everywhere else... got 2 pairs of cochins from ky earlier this year too without any issues. nobody ever seems to check for paperwork thru our PO...

even boxes marked hatching eggs never get an eyelash batted... my postmaster just comments that i'm 'at it again, huh?' LOL

hey there friends! I've missed you!
Just wanted to chime in quickly...
Leigh, my Bazinga came direct from GreenFire in the spring/summer of 2011, along with 11 other chicks. I bought him from my friend Denys in December, 2011. After falling in love with him, I went back in February, 2012, and bought 5 hatching eggs and a week or so later 2 chicks. (These coming from the remaining flock and thus not related to Bazinga) One of the chicks grew into Penny. From the eggs I hatched Amy, Pria, and Bernadette.
Also, just so you know, when the Big Bang girls started laying, fall of 2012, I sold 11 eggs to Jean Hovenden, who hatched 10 chicks.
If you (or Karen) got eggs or chicks from her there's a good chance there's Bazinga genes in there.

Take care everyone!
My sympathies to those of you who have suffered losses, and I do mean that from my heart.
I know how you feel...
