Swedish Flower Hen Thread

An update on our little happy flock. They're just fantastic. =)

We have three girls and two boys! They follow us around and eat strictly food they catch or find. They've shown no interest in pellets.
Those are BEAUTIFUL!

I love all the black. (Am I sounding like a broken record?)

Does anyone even know what a broken record is now-days?

They don't test for MG at the Frederick Lab.  It has to be sent to the Salisbury lab for that.  So sorry to hear about your rooster.  Hopefully it isn't anything serious.

Yeah, true, but I specifically requested it, so they may have couriered samples to Salisbury.

So far, nobody else is sick. I contemplated having to depop MY farm if it is AI, and the thought is sickening.

well I did loose 1 of the SFH chicks last night. it never did begin to eat of drink much, was just weaker from the beginning. the others are growing & doing very well. looks like 2 are blue based, so anxious to see how they turn out.

Oh bummer, about the one. But they are fun to watch grow...the color changes are so neat!

Sorry you lost one!
Looking forward to pictures of the rest of your babies!

So sorry about Brandy Ann. She has the sweetest face!

Here are some pics of my GF chicks - 6 weeks old.

The "blue girl" was a black down chick when she arrived, but looking very blue with lacing now. Just getting some gold on her neck. Going to be pretty. The others look like boys ---

Our red breasted black mille hen - Helga - taken early this spring.

and back view

And Osta - our wheaten/lavender mille hen. Hard to see in the picture but her spangle barring is lavender instead of black or blue.

And our two young non crested pullets in a Fig tree. Picture taken at dusk with flash so it's a bit washed out. The blue butt belongs to a Marans. This trio of little monsters refuse to go in the coop. Every night it's a hunt to find them and put them to bed. Good thing they don't know sound travels :) They're talkative when settling in for the night.

My first hatch on SFH! These little babies are all less than 48 hrs. old. We will be keeping 2-3 of these, the rest will be going to a guy who lost several of his in the flash flooding earlier this month. I love the little blue, DH loves the little black. Just not sure quite which ones to keep. They are all eating and drinking well, seem very strong and are definitely LOUD, and mobile (hence the laundry basket pic, it was to only way to keep them somewhat still!). Not sure if any stand out, there is also a red/blue looking baby that I really like. I know they are very young, but if anything stands out good or bad straight away, I'd like to know.
