I left the house this morning and one chick was completely out of the shell, it was almost all dry and looked to be solid yellow. Has anyone else had a solid yellow chick???

There were 2 other eggs with pips... I hope to go home and find a few more wee ones in the bator!

Congratulations!!!
My mostly all white ones had just a faint grey stripe on top of their heads and their backs were the same faint grey. My avatar is one of them.

Has your little yellow one started to feather in yet?

There may be a way to sex 8-10 day old SFH chicks - The male have a slit in their down just below the lower beak for the wattle to grow in. The females (at this age) don't - I think -

Will try to post pics later

Also Jeremy, the yellow chicks seem to become white or very light birds.

Keep us posted and of course... Pictures! Pictures! - when you get home.
One of my chicks was solid yellow. If you look up the pics on my BYC page, or earlier in this thread, it is Astolf (formerly Astrid). Kasja and Kjerstin each had a little gray on them.

Here she is, resting in the bator, waiting on her brothers and sisters to hatch.

Thanks for the pictures and insight into what she (or he) may end up looking like, I'm so excited by the potential possibilities, it's one of the things that drew me to this breed. There are still 2 eggs with pips but they haven't done much since this morning, no signs of any other pips. I'm thinking this will be a late hatch like a few of my others earlier this year, my bator must be running a few degrees cool.
