Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I recently traded two young SFH cockerels for a crested pullet. She has the largest crest that I have seen on an SFH. It is large and wide enough to affect her vision vertically. She has acted normally and is laying. I love her colors and flowering. She also provides me with a black body SFH that I do not have. My cockerels are all non crested and I have two crested pullets otherwise and one non-crested.

This is her picture:

This gray kiddo was a crest to crest breeding quite by mistake also. Not vaulted from what I can tell. But a good sized crest. I prefer non-crested birds myself and would like all my birds to be non-crested. Hoping to find a good non-crested rooster.

Too bad you do not live closer because I have several non-crested cockerels available.

I have a pullet like that. She too has the largest crest of them all! Unfortunately I do not have a crested roo. I really wanted to try increasing the percentage of crests by breeding crestedxcrested. All 3 of our cockerels are smooth.

Our pullet that looks like that is the kids' favorite. Beautiful birds, thank you for sharing yours!

So I am new to this. CrestedxCrested = vaulted skulls?
Unlike you, I prefer the crests! Each to their own with this breed

I have 3 uncrested cockerels. Would trade but I don't think I can ship out of state. Bummer

I just read the entire previous discussion on crests and vaulted skulls. I got it now. Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge!

I love the crested, too. I think I'm more prone to letting nature take its course unless I start seeing a ton of vaulted skulls in the incubator.

well she is the closest to the birchen pattern that I've seen so far... so I'd say all the e-locus variants are present within the sfh... (she'd be comparable to the brown-red of cochins, or the black copper of the marans as far as the base pattern is concerned).

There is a shippable non crested roo for sale on the want ads.

I'm also growing out a BUNCH of roos. lost the only crested one (so far) to a coon, but knock on wood, I think the coon's got a taste for boys. LOL at least as far as the sfh goes... it also ate my ONLY bantam blrw pullet, so i'm down to the one roo, again.
