You know I have your address now (BDM). I've heard of horse thieves but what about chicken thieves?

Are you finding that these litter buckets provide a large enough nest? We got one to put in the "kiddo" side just in case anyone starts laying before I can let them run freely again. But they seem so narrow that I wasn't sure if they could turn around in there! AFL uses them too but I want to hear testimony from more than just one person.

Th litter bucket is an "optional" laying spot. They all have access to the primary 9-box spot in the trailer coop:

700

700

But... some still pick the optional spot some days just to keep things interesting.

In all seriousness, I did hear a situation in Indiana in which their birds were ranging and a couple of their prize show birds disappeared. No signs of predators and the family thinks someone may have seen them when they came to purchase birds and possibly came back and nabbed some. No way to prove it however.

Yes - unfortunately I have heard of a number of similar situations. If we move to a "forever house, " I hope to make a very large, fenced chicken area divided into breeding groups and then run invisible fence around the entire shebang so my dogs can stay on duty against predators of the 4 or 2 legged kind.

It happened to me with some puppies. That is why i pick a meeting spot for selling anything. I am single and work, leaving lots of hours for theiving visitors. ...........

Re: being single and the concern about unwanted visitors... One of the gals I went to school with was listed in the phone book under her cat's name... so she knew that if any one called asking for Zeus, she knew it was someone she didn't know.
