I had 9 active SFH go into lockdown but only one hatched

I have been combing through the site looking at photos but dont see many chicsk with this chipmunk coloring. If feather sexing really works with SFH then I have a little girl (fingers crossed!!). Im dying to know what color she will be!

Super cute baby. Congrats on the 1! I hope it is a girl. I have 11 SFH that i've hatched out this year (from shipped eggs) and only 3 (maybe 4) are girls.

I took some pics a couple weeks ago and have just been too busy to post.

Here are my 3, BB, Runt, & 2 Face - They hatched at the beginning of August

2-Face

BB

Runt (she won't hold still EVER - especially if I have the camera out)

White Triplets (boys) & Keni (girl - more brown) (hatched out by broody in September)

These guys were my replacement eggs from my SFH order that yielded me a Golden Campine (Bear)
they hatched out 10/17 - i think I have 2 boys and 1 girl - 1 is still iffy. I'm really hoping I have 2 girls.
Girl

His comb has gotten pretty red in the past 2 weeks! Dany I really wanted a hen that color.

Girl??

Girl in the corner is the same one as in the first pic.
Boy, he pretty much popped out with a huge comb (at least larger then the others) - and he's about twice the size of the others.

Hubby got me a wonderful new camera for Christmas! I have been using my iPad for almost 2 years as a camera after my oldest kid accidentally broke my wonderful old camera, and the photos are not the same. When I learn to offload the pictures, I'll post some of my two boys.

They have started roosting in with my bantam Cochins, to their horror, now that the rest of the big bird gang is gone. I have some younger birds coming up that I'm planning to move in with the SFH guys once they stop sounding like babies. Maybe that will help the boys stay where they belong. Still want some girl SFH. Le sigh.

yes, it is a dominant gene.

you got hetero/homo mixed up i think... heterozygous has only 1 copy of the gene. homozygous has 2 copies...

if you have a homozygous crested, with uncrested, you'll get 100% crested. heterozygous crested with uncrested you'd get 50%. breeding 2 crested birds together could result in about 25% uncrested though, if they're both heterozygous. uncrested birds bred together will never produce a crest.

not so sure about the huge crests... i think that's more in breeds that have overdeveloped crests, like the silkies and polish... i haven't seen any sfh with that style crest yet in all the pics i've looked at.

edited multiple times to add things i forgot LOL
Yeah I did get them mixed up. Whoops : )

Here are my two SFH chicks. One hatched a full 18 hours after the first was already out and into the brooder, so glad I decide to give it a little more time! I'd love to know what color they are going to be. One is a light chipmunk pattern and the other is a deep brownish red on the head and back with grayish wings.

I just checked and they do both have little combs already. They are small but distinct and definitely elevated. Is that a bad sign?!?!
