I look for shiny feathers buried between the wings on the back (back cape). They generally come in even before the saddle feathers.

Welcome to BYC! Nice to see more SFHs in Georgia. We are just south of Atlanta.enjoyed seeing your photos and the snow! i grew up in upstate NY but am a Georgian these days so not much snow here. Our Swedish Flower hens started laying on Christmas day! It was like a Christmas present. We have 2 laying hens and 1 rooster. That worked out well. We have hatched out 3 sets of eggs and have 14 chicks. The last group hatched 2 days ago. I love these Swedes, they are beautiful and gentle birds.
So, I am pleased to say my 3 hens all laid today..... Yes, the eggs are in the incubator and I will be happy to see what comes out....
