I look for shiny feathers buried between the wings on the back (back cape). They generally come in even before the saddle feathers.

enjoyed seeing your photos and the snow! i grew up in upstate NY but am a Georgian these days so not much snow here. Our Swedish Flower hens started laying on Christmas day! It was like a Christmas present. We have 2 laying hens and 1 rooster. That worked out well. We have hatched out 3 sets of eggs and have 14 chicks. The last group hatched 2 days ago. I love these Swedes, they are beautiful and gentle birds.

So, I am pleased to say my 3 hens all laid today..... Yes, the eggs are in the incubator and I will be happy to see what comes out....
Congrats! We'll have to trade pics of chicks. My girls are getting up to speed laying as well.
