Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I hope to have babies from GF by the end of the week!

We have been giving the roo lessons in behavior every day. I'm not sure it's making it through his head. He may end up dinner yet. I didn't like the way he looked at one of my kids today. But he hasn't run after me in some days.

When I log on GF and fill my cart it says the hatch date is mid March

That's exactly what Keni looks like! I'm hoping she's getting close to laying. She hatched out first weekend in Sept, so i'm waiting patiently (or not) on some eggs from her.
My oldest hatched Aug. 28th, and I'm still waiting on that first egg as well. They are looking really good though. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer. I sold off most of the splash, and mostly white pullets as layers, so I am down to 16 nicely flowered pullets and the 4 dark roos. I will have to restrain myself from hatching this spring as I will be traveling for work quite a bit this summer, but I can hardly wait to see what the new roos produce.

Thought I would share a picture of a roo I hatched. Has anyone see this color combo before? He kinda looks like three colors in one. I am thinking about using him as a breeder, but since he is only 4 months old I have a couple of months to decide.

If you decide not to use him, ship him to me and I'll use him.

If you do decide to use him, maybe we could swap some eggs!

Greenfire apparently had a few hatch on Monday, as there is supposed to be 6 arrive at my local PO tomorrow. I split shipping with a local BYCer so we have more babies in the shipment. We shall see what turns up. I hope for girls!

I am killing that mean rooster tomorrow. This evening, I went out to feed and was up inside the barn. It's a bit of a ways from the house. My littlest came out on the deck and hollered for me. That rooster saw him and ran at him, racing up the deck stairs straight at him, a first. I saw the rooster running, threw my manure fork down and ran after him. The kid turned around and the rooster jumped at his back. Didn't scratch him, but that roo was trying. I yelled for the child to go back n the house, but he is two going on sixteen and doesn't listen well. The rooster jumped at him a second time, and the kid kicked him just as I got there. If I could have caught the roo, I would have killed him right then because I was so angry. But he ran off, and I had my older kids come out and help me catch him. He is in solitary with no food tonight. I'm trying to decide if I want to make him dinner or just kill and bury him. I'm 8 weeks pregnant tomorrow, and the smell of raw chicken makes me puke right now. I know how to process chickens, but I don't know if I could do it right now, if that makes sense.

My littlest child has had several plastic surgeries already. He will have more in the future. I do not want him to have any surgeries we could have prevented.

Right now, in my breeding pen I have one Brown Mottled hen, 3 Black Mottled, 1 Blue Mottled and a Mohogany Mille Fleur in with a Brown Mottled rooster. I am really hoping to get more brown mottled offspring as I really like that color. I switched roos two months ago so I am not sure what my roo will produce.

The rooster juvie that I am considering using has a Citroen Mille Fleur colored chest. He is still really young so I am interested to see how he turns out. I have never seen a Citroen Mille Fleur Swede before. Has anyone else?
I really like his coloring, keep us updated!

Oh my good golly he is beautiful! I haven't seen a roo like him until now.

Please let me know if you'd ever like to do an egg trade. Have you checked his wings and does he have any sprigs? (Just out of curiosity.)

Ok, wondering what color the Swedish Flower Hen's egg will be. Are they always a cream color, or, can they lay blue??
