Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I've got a mess of chicks hatching out, but I love the color on this one especially. Somewhere between blue and lavender mottled.
SFHs are like a box of chocolates.....lol.
it's likely a splash. i don't think the lavender gene is in sfh (and hope it stays that way).

that's why i no longer have the lavender cochins... feather quality was horrible. and tends to be until all the bad stuff's weeded out over generations. i'll stick with bbs.

I hatched one like that last month for Herducks. She almost didn't get it.

I can't wait to see what color it turns out.

Some of my hens are very pale blue. This looks just like mottled javas as chicks, but blue where the black is. They are heavy on the white like that. Love those polka dots!

We just got a mini red appaloosa, and I am calling her my Swedish Flower Horse.

Empty nesters waiting for chicks to hatch...look at the beautiful brooder my fiancé is making for me. The cedar smells wonderful. A great distraction from candeling the eggs and checking the incubator thermometer.

I hatched out a bunch of those last year. All of mine that color were splash. I was sure that some of the darker ones would be blue, but the only one that ended up blue was the 1 black chick that hatched.

That is beautiful!
Just make sure you don't use cedar shavings in there as well- it can cause respiratory problems.

Wouldn't I need a roo with blue in it to get splash chicks out of my blue hens? Does B/B/S work different in the SFH? These are the first I am hatching from my own flock.

be careful with cedar. it doesn't react well with bird droppings and can cause respiratory problems with chicks especially.
