I've been meaning to do this for a while, everyone has such beautiful birds, and I thought the girls did a great job posing for me! These are Penny, Amy, Bernadette, and Pria.

What beauties they are! Excited to be raising some chicks from your girls' eggs! (Some of the friendliest chicks I've had in a while!)

Feathered out! Tell me what you think.
Lovely chicks! How old are they? #3 and 4 look like cockerels, but the pictures are small and my eyes aren't that good. I can't see the combs on the first two really well. Watch for wattle development. That's usually the best way to tell.

Can you feather sex SFH?
here is my SFH chick at 3-4 days
anyone have any input to my guesses??
it would be better to compare apples to apples, not oranges. Wyandottes typically feather slower than some other breeds, so comparing the 2 doesn't work well.

but yeah imo hens feather faster than roos in most breeds I've had. Wyandottes may be the exception, but only when the slow feathering gene is present in one line but not the other.

Yes the two you noted do act the rooiest. When I put my hand in the brooder they are the two greet if the first. They demand attention and will climb onto my hand and just hang out. The darkest ones comb us more pink than anyone else's. they are seven weeks.

Thanks ivyrash, KYTinpusher, and dungheap.
Bulldogma, I am just as excited to be raising some of your beautiful birds too!
I was reading back through some posts and, KYTinpusher, I must agree with you, the genetic posibilities that come with these birds is amazing!
From my little flock I have hatched black, blue, gold, red pyle, blue base red, red base brown, black base brown, and splash. Who would have thought???
I will try to get some good pictures up, and maybe ya'll can let me know if I've assigned the right name to the color. :)
I have also noticed how inquisitive, friendly, and fearless these birds are./ I just love going into my juvie pen, well, all of my pens, 'cause they just come right over. Of course the adults don't jump right up on me anymore, but the 'kiddies' do and it's so much fun. So, Bulldogma, I'm glad that trait carried over, in fact, I won't keep a roo who is not friendly. I've had none that were aggressive, but a few that were stand-offish. They're decorating someone elses yards now. :)

Here's an update on one of the chicks, the greyish one. I'm doing some progression pictures but this was too cute not the share right away. My daughter loves the chickens and I have to drag her out of the coop and run on a daily basis. Any one she is holding is "my favorite!" You can see behind her the cedar woodbox I am using as the brooder. It's perfect because it's draft-proof and divided into a 3/4 compartment for the logs and a 1/4 compartment for kindling. The kindling area is just right for chicks up to about 2 weeks old.

Beautiful! Irish influence in upturned nose, ruddy cheeks, leperchaun pointed mouth. Nice SFH too.
