Woo Hoo! I love those black and yellow cotton balls! Keep us posted, and congratulations! What are the other 35 egg breeds? Don't mean to sound nosey, just curious. I live off other peeps hatch stories!

I totally get where you are coming from! I need to try and get a picture in the brooder. Right now when they sleep it looks like a pelt. Just a bumpy little pelt. I think there must be about 80-90 less than a week old in there. This hatch ended up being 5 dozen plus a couple. I was astounded! Maybe I'm finally learning?

Out of 71 eggs
2 dozen Buff Orpingtons (2 eggs didn't hatch)
1 dozen + mixed EE's or BBS AM (1 egg didn't hatch)
7 Cream Legbar (3 eggs didn't hatch but the girls were molting so I'm not surprised)
10 EO Basque (they all hatched)
14 SFH (There were more than I thought

Does Mella's boy have any of your "German blood" or is he from your other current birds?

I really like all the black and the contrast.

The German boys are just coming of age now and are not yet in any breeding pens. I'm going to have to figure out what breeding pen to put them in - was going to use my hoop coop, but apparently we have a bear coming around and I've moved everyone out of the weaker coops until further notice... so space is limited.

Oh so neat! Congratulations on a great hatch Cackle! I have 5 EOBasque I am very excited to have and watch grow out. I think I was fortunate and have 4 pullets and one roo. I hadn't intended to keep a roo, but have fallen for them a great deal. I only have 2 coops and pens, and my resident head roo is a beautiful black/lav split Ameraucana named Clark. He's been so good around here, I hate to part with him and have a tough decision down the road. I love the blue egg gene and having him around to make lots of EE's or Ameraucana's. I lost my his breed partner due to my stupidity of forgetting she was left out of the closed coop door.. Still feel so awful about that. She had a horrible history of laying though. My intention was to have the new coop and run for the SFH's and then the other for my mixed breeds and Clark. I have to see how this EO roo grows out, and if he is a nice well mannered boy, I may just have to change plans. How long have you owned the EO Basque breed, and are you liking them?

Pictures, Pictures please!
