@Bulldogma I absolutely love the coloring of your Astrid and Ginger and their man. WOW! I must get some that color! Is the white base splash or am I totally off?

Have 8 SFH eggs going into lockdown on Tuesday, very excited for some diversity in my little flock. Im really hoping for girls. I currently have 4 boys and 2 girls and really want to keep 2 of the boys. These are my first shipped eggs to incubate and 8 out of 14 is pretty awesome I think (seller sent 15 but my darling middle son accidentally cracked one, and actually I paid for 10 so 8 is awesome!)

Love all the pictures everyone posts. I really love the color variety in this breed.
Come on little chickies!

We have been calling the red/white birds "splash," but they aren't all true splashes. I know this because I have gotten some black-based birds out of Ginger's eggs.

Fingers crossed for you hatch!

Wow. Those are great odds. Only 4 of 14 of mine made it to lockdown and only 1 of those hatched.
How's the little one doing Bukrub66? Love some new pictures as I can never get enough of pictures of peoples babies, and big birds too! Hope it's doing well.

ashtree, I am going into lockdown tomorrow with my 6 eggs. Had 7 up to a few days ago when I noticed one had stopped developing. Upon opening it I could see it stopped right about Day 10. I'm getting good at the chicken developing pictures. So... 6 Healthy swimmers will head into lockdown, I'm a bit worried about 1 saddle shaped air cell, but the last time I had one just like it, and the chick made it out fine with no issues. We can hold vigil together! Come Friday at dinner time I am hoping I will have 6 new GIRL babies. Of the 8 SFH chicks I have hatched thus far I have 2 girls and 6 cockerels. I must say, they are beautiful cockerels at that!

They are doing great. I had to separate them again last night but today they are having no issues. The OE still does not like being held, but the SF is a real lover. Here is a pic of them both. I'm really digging watching Chicken TV. So is the cat and dogs.

Yea, lockdown together!!!! Bring on the pullets! And it is so hard picking which roosters to keep because not only are they beautiful but they're big sweeties too. Were your eggs shipped as well?

Yes, this is my third batch from Bulldogma's eggs! Yippie!

Ha ha ha ha. I thought the same thing! Careful, some cats and dogs love chicken mc nuggets.

I'm simply amazed at how quickly these chicks are changing. My SF's wings are about a half an inch long with white tips...

Just a little curious if I'm gonna be able to tell the sex before it lays an egg or crows. LOL

There are some SF boys that just keep you guessing until they are 3 or 4 months old. They don't get size/redness to their comb like others do so you wait to see if those pointed saddle feathers are going to come out. I have had only one male like that. It was from someone else's eggs I hatched in the beginning of getting into this breed but since then, I normally can tell the boys by a month old. In my breeding program, I won't use any male that I couldn't tell was a male until a late age. I think that tendency would be potentially hereditary and who wants to feed extra males longer than necessary.
