Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I love the big crested red roo. What did HE look like as a youngster? Please post more pic of your birds, I can't get enough of them!

Just curious, have you hatched out any chicks for yourself this round?

It seems that GFF brought in a second lot of SFHs from a different flock because the first did not have crests, but am not sure they have brought in any since then. I will have SFH directly from GFF, as well as from Duemig10 and Daisyjack

As for the creme legbars, Jenny (GFF) said they have just got a new shipment to diversify the gene pool.

Sounds good to me

I got my chicks right from Greenfire. When I got the chicks they had two different color of bands on their legs. Jenny said they where unrelated. I have 3 from one line and 7 from another, but both lines have crest. I read Greenfire blogs and in Nov. they said that they might be importing more....

"Twice we have imported Swedish flower hens; the groups are unrelated. In the fall of 2011, we imported two unrelated hedemora to boost the diversity of the flock we first imported in 2010. We are also breeding two distinct bloodlines of chocolate Orpingtons; ditto our white Bresse. In 2012, we plan to import more unrelated Swedish flower hens, black Bresse, Olandsk dwarfs, and a number of other breeds to continue our ongoing program of ensuring the genetic diversity, and thus the long term sustainability, of the breeds we’ve selected to introduce to the United States. (We also intend to import show quality silver appenzeller spitzhauben to help improve the American gene pool of this breed; it is currently almost impossible to find high quality examples in this country.)"
