Swedish Flower Hen Thread

Sounds good! I will look forward to it.
Mine should start laying around July, so we can swap sometime in August so their eggs can get big before you try to hatch any

I free range my flock and they love it. They go everywhere! I was wondering though how well they do in confinement. Up to now I put the roosters out of the pen if I have to leave all day. I just don't think it's fair to keep them locked up without the proper hen to rooster ratio (more hens growing out). I worry about my lighter hen, who happens to be my favorite because of her wonderful personality. I'm setting up another pen and am thinking about keeping a free range flock and one that doesn't get to free range.

Beautiful birds everyone! I love seeing all these wonderful pictures. It's so exciting to watch them grow, even if they're not mine!

Thanks for all the pictures, everybody!!!

Here's one of some of mine - now almost 9 months old. I thought it was cute.

Beautiful birds! I love the dark brown hen! I really like my light ones, but I especially like the dark ones with the black and white flecks at the end of their feathers. I have two splash pullets. One with blue, and one with red flecks. They are pretty, but I was hopeing for really colorful birds. They are by far the most fun of all of the breeds that I have had thus far!

If the 22 weeks age for starting to lay holds true, my hens should start around July 7th. We'll see how it goes. I'm hopeing to get some breeder cages built to seperate them into pairs. I've kept all four roosters so far, but 3 of them are very similar except for the crest. I am really excited to see what they produce!

Beautiful I see that two of them are roosters do they get along or are their territory issues?

Those two get along perfectly. I've never seen them have a little tiff. Of the six males I received last August, two were eaten (by us) because them became horribly aggressive towards people at about 6 months, these two share the 5 SFH pullets from last year (I know - bad ratio. I'm working on it.) and the other two each have a small flock of Ameraucanas, Wellies and Marans for themselves. I do have a lot of pretty little chicks from these two guys right now!

Thanks I was wondering if they could be kept together as some breeds are ready to kill any other rooster. They are beautiful birds.
