Swedish Flower Hen Thread

We talked about the white several months ago, and some people seemed to think that the white was really splash. Maybe Anniesmom would be able to tell us more. I think she said it was a dominate color in the chicks that she is growing out. I personally have never seen an all white (or splash) male on here. I have only seen females. If anyone has an all white male I would love to see him. The males are so much more colorful.

I have two SFH roos that need to go to freezer camp, as pretty as they are they are mean as snakes! If I can't talk DH into doing the deed I may list them on CL for $5 or free.

You only need one white/splash parent to get white/splash chicks.
My first two SFHs were from two eggs I got from a lady near me. She bought a juvenile pair from GF last spring. Both chicks are white/splash (Sophie and Lily). This is a picture from the breeder of my chicks of Sophie and Lily's parents.

Early this year Lily was in a pen with a cockerel I got directly from GF last August as a chick that was dark blue as a baby (Walter). Below are pictures of Lily and Walter.

This is an 8 week old daughter of Lily and Walter. She has a tiny bit of red on her wings.

I have no way of knowing if both of the roosters carry a recessive white/splash gene but I would kind of suspect that they do. Further research is necessary.

The above chick has two full siblings that are gray and white. If it's a recessive gene, both would carry it from their mother.

And I do believe I have a white/splash male in my 6 week old batch. He's not very cooperative about having his picture taken but you can see the bigger comb even from the back. The splashing on him is darker than the girls', too.

This is a picture of my new babies I think they are so pretty. The white one has red splotches on the wings. I will probably be looking for girlfriends for them.

Your welcome! Sorry I didn't see your post sooner. I can't wait to see photos of all the little chicks in 3 weeks!
I have finally joined the Swedish Flower hen family! I have 3 chicks and now incubating over 2 dozen (hopefully they do great). Very excited! Thanks Contrastphoto for the eggs!

I hatched some Swedish Flower Hens off ebay about 5 months ago and noticed that one of my hens has dark colored legs. Is it possible for Swedish Flower Hens to have any different color legs then yellow?

I had to read this aloud to my husband. Two of our granddaughters are Sophie and Lily!

I commend your choice of names.

I don't believe so...at least they're not supposed to. Someone on here was sold a different breed by accident. I personally just bought a Jersey Giant that has grown into an Australorp. It happens when you're hatching out a variety of different birds all at once. Do you have a picture you can post?
