. I will take more pics later this week.

I LOVE CHICKS!! Awww - so stinkin' cute!

My PO recommended I write "Fragile Eggs" on the top of the box.

All we can do is hope they are handle gently.

You've got that right! Have been hatching for years, and this year has been the worst ever in my hatching progress. The boxes have several times have looked like an elephant sat on it. No surprise, the eggs didn't do well.
I am not hatching for a long while now, in fact when I get the eggs I have in now and the ones coming, I'm selling my incubator..eek..! Will be hard to stop, but I need a rest anyway. Going to leave it up to broody girls from now on.
I got more Swedish Flower eggs yesterday, and the other ones are due to go into lock down this week. Soo excited to see these babies. 10 eggs viable right now! Hatch Day..this Sat.

Hoping Little Mom keeps doing well.

As of today Little Mom is doing great

...

Last evening I watched her for a bit and she was standing on 1 leg and scratching her head with the other leg... another step in life for her and her legs getting stronger.

I do notice that she still paces herself with what she does and does not do.. so far she has not decided to do some of the crazy running around like the other chicks do yet.

I think she has a friend now as there is a little chick that always seems to be near her quite a bit. If I can get some pictures later today without the red light I will try to take a few and post them.

Thank you for asking about her

One of my SFH checks had almost the exact same thing at hatch asLittle Mom. I thought she had splay leg, wrapped her, and it was way, way worse within a day r two. I decided to just leave her be....and she is 100% FINE now. I didn't even give her vitamins. No idea what happened or why.

I wonder if its the way they lay in the egg for the last week or so growing and the hatching out taking too long for them so the legs get what my granny would call "stoved" meaning they are stuck and can't do much till the muscles relax completly and then they have to learn how to use them. One of life's little ?????? Hummmmmmmm

Glad to hear your little one is fine now.

We also got Swedish Flower Hen eggs yesterday due in Wed. These will be our last hatching eggs this year and last buying of SFHens.

Husband has enough now to do a breeding program himself.

They are coming from about 3 1/2 hrs from us here in Tx so I hope they make the trip down here in good condition.

I asked the seller to put my name and cell phone number on the box in big letters and to call me when they come I will pick them up. Called the post office and told them they are due in on Wed so they will not send them out with the mail lady for the day.

So far every seller has does this and the post office calls me to come get them. Have had good hatch rate on the ones we send for. He got Turkey eggs from New York State and out of the 6 eggs 2 were duds and the other 4 are to hatch out this Thursday.

I think it depends on how well the seller packs the eggs and the info on the box and how the buyer choses to get the eggs either let the post office deliver them or go get them themselves.

I got 6 Basque hatching eggs from Fl 2 months ago and 1 was a dud and the rest hatched out just fine. Ray packed those eggs beautifuly. They never moved period in the box. Those little chicks have their own voice different from the other ones and its almost like singing sometimes...

Good luck on your eggs.

No, not necessarily. My last shipment of eggs this past spring was a repeat purchase from a very reputable farm in the Southeast. They were packed excellently, labeled amazingly well on all sides and the top of the box AND I picked them up at my local post office. They were shipped overnight express but even then the post office managed to lose the package for an entire day. It didn't arrive at my major airport until 12 hours AFTER the guaranteed delivery time. My local post office called me the next morning to pick up the package. It was dirty, one corner was crushed, and two eggs in that corner were badly cracked. Not one of the remaining eggs showed any sign of development and after 10 days I pitched the whole batch. They were dead when they got here. Yes, the postage was refunded as the guaranteed delivery was not met.

No matter how well the seller packs the eggs and labels the box the post office CAN destroy your eggs or kill your chicks. We have a friend who is a mail carrier in Eugene, OR who saw another carrier there regularly leave chicks out on the loading dock in below freezing weather because he didn't like the noise.

Well that is the fault of the post office not the seller. Everyone knows how the post office can be about packages. You take your chanches when you buy eggs and have them shipped. You hope they are packed good and arrive on time and not squished up. So far we have been lucky with our shipped eggs but our time will come I am sure if we get anymore eggs.

Why didn't your friend who saw the other carrier regulary leave chicks out on the loading dock in below freezing weather notify his superior? If he had of then the other carrier would be told to stop. He should have spoken up.
