Love the chicken on the table!

Sunny, Hope you get some babies tonight or tomorrow.

What bator do you have?

Okay, hate to be the party pooper here....I'm discovering a lot of split wings in the SFH's. Anyone else? Is it something that you as an individual are breeding out of your birds?

I did have one roo from my initial 7 chicks with split wings. (hatched from purchased eggs) I culled that rooster, but was worried that there might be a genetic thing for that. So far I have hatched 34 chicks from those birds with no sign of split wings or crooked toes. Personally I think that crooked toes are more from incubation issues than from genetics. I've had crooked toes in my Ameraucanas as well, but it has always been when something was wrong during incubation. Once we had an extended power outage from a storm, and once the thermostat quit working about halfway through the hatch. Both of those hatches I had several with crooked toes, but those are the only incidences of crooked toes that I've had 20 some years, and I've hatched 100's of chicks.

I have an LG. I very successfully hatch local eggs in it. In fact, I have 5 barnyard mixes running around that hatched the other day which I incubated alongside the SFH. So I know I can. It's the shipping that seems to be the wild card.

I had an lg and had terrible hatch rates. I couldnt keep the temp steady in mine. This is my first hatch with my new bator. I got the hovabator genesis. The temp hasn't fluctuated more than a degree so far.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

i have 3 hovabators I use for incubation, and a 4th i use for hatching, so i can rotate hatches every few days if i choose. tho i try to keep about 5 days between due dates so i can clean the hatcher out between batches. it took a bit of trial and error getting the humidity right because of seasonal differences, but they've been running for over a year and my hatch rates are fairly consistent now, compared to when i first started.

Yes - and thanks to ki4got, my 9-year-old is asking for an incubator for Christmas - LOL! Hubby says "no" but I may just have to overrule him.

We'll see - otherwise I'll just drive all our eggs up to ki4got's place when my girls start laying. (Just wish it wasn't so faaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrr now that I moved!)
