Swedish Flower Hen Thread

I just got my first pair of swedish flower hens so excited but have a question do people like the crested ones as much as the non crested. I plan on selling some of their babies next spring but have never dealt with them. I mean do they tolerate other birds or do i keep them in a seperate pen. just dont know much about them except there beautiful and they throw off the cuteist babies. some info on them would help.

There's a lot of information on this thread. Just start from the beginning and read a few pages each day. I find that most people like the crested birds. The subject of crested and non crested has come up a lot on this thread. I have a mixed flock and my SFH's are in with them. Everyone gets along just fine. Do you have any pictures of your pair to share with us?

I'm just taking a wild guess here, but I'm gonna put money on that darker one being a roo and the strawberry being a pullet. In the next day, take a peek at their primary wing feathers and tell us what you see!
Agree! That little tipsy turvy guy has got quite a large comb!! Cute pics :)

Going to post some here in a few. thanks for the advice i will start reading.

As promised, here is the strawberry Blond. Don't look as strawberry as when wet. From the hairdo looks like might be crested. When I came in from feeding what critters the wildlife has been kind enough not to eat before I got the survivors penned and a new Guard pup installed. There was another hatchee. I had set up one brooder pen while I was out feeding, so I took the youngsters out there and put them in with a nice warm light, some fresh water and some grub.
Now we see how many more are going to join these,
I am thinking at least 2 more. Today is hatch day.

Hatchling number one

And with number two. Number 2 ain't standing good yet<g>

Wow! Thanks for all the info on your condition...I sure wouldn't use lazyQ as your name here, you do keep busy! That is great. It's hard to lose weight when you are older..just ask someone that knows

I've been told that I have Fibro, and MS..yes, it hurts to exercise..for years. It's hard to keep my weight down, I'm almost 60. My son with spinda bifida gets around about the same as you from the sounds of it. He's paralyzed from the waist down. Doesn't use the chair in his room or when chillin. Uses it though to go shopping. He doesn't drive..tried it, didn't like it! He's almost 30, uses the bus. Is going back to school..lives right by a college here, so he's close to it. Yep, you are quite the impressive person... maybe you can change your name to busyQ. :D
That little red baby is so cute in that first picture. I could just reach through, grab it, and kiss all over it's cure little face! I have a black and yellow like that one..go a few pages back, I posted my two that hatched..and, the comb was bigger on that one too..but the feathers are saying something else! Has the smaller and bigger pin feathers. I am thinking maybe that one is looking like a crest could happen. I would be thrilled. I don't think any from my first hatch are going to have one. Congrats on your new babies!

Thought I would share a few pics.

The Flowers in my Flower Garden:

Here's Runt - She's getting more beautiful everyday

Here's 2 Face -

I didn't get any of BB - He's really hard to get a good picture of. He's very skittish and runs away when I come in the coop.

Here's the babies my broody hatched out
I'm thinking the 3 white ones are boys! UGH! I am still holding out hope for the last one!

This is Kenny which I think we're gonna have to change the spelling to Keni - Pretty sure she's a she

Here's some other pics of my kids (Colsen and Mckenzi) and Jewel & Bear

For those that remember Bear (Not SFH who was evacuated with me during the wildfires) - This is him getting big and very handsome.
As much as I need to get rid of him, he's turning in to quite the gentleman.

This is my EE Jewel - She's a sweetie too.

And Jewel again - Poor bird!

Thanks, The LazyQ is from when my Son and I use to build trailer mounted Barbecue pits. I put a gas burner in them and you could use that to help do the cooking and you used wood for smoke. They called it Lazy Que. When I tried to use "Big Jim" as my name here they wouldn't let me so I used "LazyQ?.
No new chicks yet.

Lots of cute little ones! I'm afraid it does look like the 3 white ones are roosters. The pullet looks just like the rest of mine, looks like she is getting a little crest as well. I have decided not to use red and white roosters next year even though I think they are beautiful. I just got to many red/white and splash chicks this year. Keni should be a good match with Two Face though. He is beautiful! I am hoping for a dark rooster from the group that I got from Kimberly. Hope your hatch goes well on Thursday!

I have some cockerels and pullets growing out. Several have split wings. I will sell those as layers. Do any of you have birds (6+ mos.) with split wings?
