Swedish Flower Hens in Austin, Texas.

I think if hawks were so bad in my neighborhood, I'd raise some Liege Fighters, use Liege hens to hatch my eggs; and set up a camera in the yard to get pictures...

And if your Swedish Flower roosters get along as well as some pictures I've seen of em...

4 or 5 Swedish Flower roos backing up a Liege Fighter, and all defending your hens against a hawk: is something I'd pay to watch!

Hello! We have Swedish Flower Hens in Austin, Texas. We are always looking to add new hens to our flock. We also take in rescue/rehome chickens, use practical farm pratices, and kind humane treatment.
Since we are already feeding kale apples oatmeal ..grated and fresh each day along with scratch and Layena, I would be very interested in learning the Bresse method of raising roosters. Plus, our chickens are true yard birds out everyday rain or shine.
We have hawks and a hawk nest in our South Austin Suburb. A hawk has tried to grab a rooster out of my arms in the early morning after we had 2 weeks of rain. I think he must have been starving. I held on and we were unharmed. So I have hawk protection advice. We use many practices to deter the hawks.

Thank you for sharing some pictures! You have a really nice setup arranged in your backyard. Deterring hawks from the property can be quite difficult but would probably be easier to solve in a neighborhood. I would imagine the hawks are in intense hunger to actually be daring enough to swoop right near you when holding your rooster. Can you possibly keep a dog on the property to discourage them?

Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
I let them out at 9 thirty after the 6 hawks in our neighbor are done feeding.
