Near the beginning of construction, about 4 p.m. due to bad weather

I managed to salvage 25 windows from a neighbor who had the city coming to pick them up... the next project is a greenhouse

I think I've decided to paint it, instead of putting up siding. Also, the chicks are only about six weeks old, and I haven't built nest boxes. I may end you building the run all by myself, since I won't have help available for days and I want it up, which is slightly terrifying. Any thoughts or suggestions you all have would be greatly appreciated!

Wow he built that in a day? fantastic.

Only suggestion I have for the run is to make your run kid proof. Not for yours but for the ones that go to school across the street. The fence around your yard looks to be about three feet tall. I had my first coop in the city. I had three hens.

My son was about five at the time and he had a neighbor friend about the same age who would come over to play. One day I went out to get something off the front porch and noticed the run door was wide open the chickens were out and here is the neighbor girl sitting in the middle of the run with one of my chickens clutched in her arms. She had just come in the yard without telling me she was there and helped her self.

I told her she needed to ask permission first and sent her home. After that I put a latch on the door that could not be opened except by an adult.

He had his cousin, a contractor/homebuilder for the seven hours or so day one, they worked until 11p.m. day two, he had me and our 10y/o son to help and put in about eleven hours. I am thoroughly impressed with the progress! Thanks for the heads up about the neighbor-kids, that's one I hadn't thought of. I was thinking a master lock type will work with the hardware we have, and my kids need to be kept out unless supervised, as well;-)

Very nice coop. How wonderful to get all those windows! Once I get settled I'm going to start collecting cheap/free windows for a green house as well! Would love to see the greenhouse when it is done as well! And of course pics of your chicks enjoying their new home!

If you're consider painting over the OSB instead of using siding, make certain you seal it first with a good oil based primer, then follow up with a high quality exterior paint.

Didn't see your ventilation in the pictures. Chickens need a lot of it.

Another suggestion from my structural engineer partner....if you plan in painting instead of siding it, seal the edges of all trim with caulking to prevent future swelling from rain getting into areas where you cannot seal with primer (under the trim). Silicone based caulking (i.e., what you would use to seal a bathtub/sink) would provide the best protection against water damage from rain.

tsc has a dog kennel 10 x 10 6 ft high for 200$ might be cheaper than buying and installing fence
