I have the white mold growing under where the feeders in my covered dirt floor chicken RUN (not coop).

Question 1: I've been reading on the forums where it says to either use the Sweet PDZ or Lime. I've even seen some posts that say to use bleach. I'm not going to use bleach. I want to KILL the mold. Will either the PDZ or Lime KILL it or just sweeten the ground?

Question 2: If the lime is best, which one? AG lime or Hydrated lime

I wouldn't expect PDZ to do it... but could be wrong.

Really it depends... but I have mushrooms growing out of where I use PDZ.

I only get issues with mold growing under my feeders in my run... when they are they type that sit on the ground and nobody can access under there... ALWAYS... in the ones I use trough feeders sitting in cinder blocks.

Hung my feeder... no more mold. Before hanging I just moved it around every few days to let the ground under it breath. Here in the PNW... mold or fungi of some sort will grow ANY where just about! :barnie

Thank You for replying. :thumbsup

I didn't have a mold problem until I made a catch box for the feeder under it. The feeder is hung above but the basin for the catch box sits on the ground directly under it with the mesh box over the basin to let the feed fall through. I dug up the ground the as soon as I found it the next day and put a wire basket under it for air. I thought I had it licked but the next morning, boom, there it was again. :barnie I've dug it up again and will be using lime today.

UPDATE: I went to Rural King :pop (love their popcorn), and bought AG lime and the PDZ for the poop board. I'll get it under control if I have to dig a foot deep and replace it with sand. LOL
