Swelling and Scab on Duck Foot

No problem! I just went thru the exact same thing in the same spot in December. Continue to Keep me updated with pictures! If I can help with anything else just let me know!

Here's a picture from yesterday afternoon:

I don't see anything coming to the top and the swelling doesn't seem to be going down. I'm worried that another scab is forming?

Did you try to push upward toward the opening. Try that. Theres Moe in there... If it scabs that's ok. But you're gonna have to pull it off again... I did, & it actually pulled out stuff when I did. But just try to push upward toward the opening... A few times & see what happens then just clean it & wait until tomorrow. You just don't want to over do it & make it more sore.

Ok I will try next time when I soak her foot and wrap it up. It's raining real hard right now, so I might not be able to wrap it up until tomorrow unless I catch her while I put everyone else in for the night.

How is baby's foot??
Well the scab reformed, so I picked it off today.. I tried squeezing the pus out but nothing came out except for some blood. The swelling isn't going down and instead of just pulling her foot up if she's staying in one place, she's sitting down....

I'm sure she's in some pain... Get some Veterycin if you don't have any & spray it twice a day. Keep up with the soaks. That stuff has to come out, so you did the right thing by taking the scab off.

Sorry I haven't been able to post pictures. I've been soaking her foot everyday. The swelling still hasn't gotten any better. I've been pulling out bits of pus everyday with an x-acto knife, but it's really painful for her so I don't want to overdo it.

I got here late . . . has anyone shared the clear iodine method? Cutting is often not at all necessary and can make matters worse.

The pus in a duck's bumblefoot won't come out with squeezing, so I would not. The clear iodine method enables you to get the pus out without cutting.

If the foot stays swollen it might be that there is something in there, like a splinter.

If at all possible, a good duck vet would be the best idea.
