Swelling On Duck's Toe ~ PICTURE ~ URGENT

Actually, now that I think about it, 4 weeks. Does iodine help if there is no open sores or wounds? Because the only thing I can see on her is a tiny spot in the middle of her foot. The top of the foot (where the toe is) is about 3-4 x's as big as that same toe on the opposite foot.

Could she have something in there? splinter piece of glass? 4 weeks is a long time. and yes the iodine will be absorbed through the skin. like haunted said place a sponge or paper towels down in bottom of the bucket then put her foot down on top of that. does she limp when she walks. and what all does she walk on in a day, different terrains? I used an old clean wash cloth in the bottom of the bucket I used. How often are you soaking her foot now? Seems if she had something in there though it would have worked it way to the surface or caused the bumble infection to happen.

  • Could she have something in there? Yes, there is a possibility, in fact, that is what I am thinking and hoping for, and nothing more serious. Hence the potatoes and the drawing salve.
  • Splinter or piece of glass? We do have a lot of stuff our yard that I suppose she could've gotten in there. 4 weeks is a long time. And yes the iodine will be absorbed through the skin. Like haunted said place a sponge or paper towels down in bottom of the bucket then put her foot down on top of that.
  • Does she limp when she walks? Yes.
  • And what all does she walk on in a day, different terrains? Grass, concrete (the porch), very hard packed down dirt, and softer dirt with leaves. I used an old clean wash cloth in the bottom of the bucket I used.
  • How often are you soaking her foot now? At first I only did it 1x a day, but now that it is getting worse, I have started soaking it 2x's a day.
  • Seems if she had something in there though it would have worked it way to the surface or caused the bumble infection to happen. That's what I keep thinking so I'm starting to question the idea of a splinter because, like you said, it should have come out by now. But instead of coming out, it just keeps on getting worse.

Okay I have never used a potato poultice so I am very interested in how that comes about and how to make one. I have used drawing salve. and I just remembered and don't understand how I could have forgotten so easily other than

but about 2 months ago I got a splinter under my finger nail. Someone on the goose thread said to use peroxide on it that the peroxide would cause the splinter to come out similar to drawing salve. So that's what I did I would pour some peroxide into a cup and soaked my finger in it, took 4 days but it worked it's way out. she said she uses it on her children a lot when they get splinters. I hope something that you have will help and get her foot cleared up.

Sorry to leave you hanging...been building and picking blueberries. I really haven't had much luck with the teatree oil myself. It's great as an anti- infective agent but I've tried it on chickens in the past and wasn't thrill with the results. Amiga and Miss L are correct in telling you to use the iodine. Iodine is very readily drawn into the body through the skin and I would be soaking in ES as Miss L said and then just apply the iodine to the swollen places. The coloring isn't as bad as I thought it would be so you're okay for now. Save the drawing salve and teatree for something else. Teatree works great on fighting sores.

This was bumbles on the bottom of my duck's foot. They had the brown dot in the middle when I brought her into the house for treatment. Unfortunately, my time right now is so darned limited it's scary. All she got was a warm bath to soften and painted with the iodine and put into the dog crate to wait for me. A couple of days went by and this is what happened to the bumbles. The iodine got into them and 'ate' the infection so when I pulled these scabs off there was nothing underneath or very, very little I could see. The point, the iodine went in and killed the infection and drew out more.

I will try the iodine tomorrow, just soak, and brush the iodine on it? Right now she is in her nest sleeping. The set-up in her cage is hay on the floor, blankets covering the cage (so no sun will get in and overheat her cage), And a small metal fan blowing in to keep her cool. I will change her water every other hour and keep ice cubes in it as well (She doesn't like drinking water if it is warm). I fed her a little extra food today as in: along with a cup in the morning and 1 at night as normal, to make up for not being out and foraging all day as normal, I added a 1/4 cup this afternoon. She is at a very healthy weight right now with the diet I am feeding her. I also added a couple cherry tomatoes this morning to cheer her up (she was very upset that I didn't let her out at all today other than taking her out for several minutes to let her swim in her pool... then putting her right back

Just soak to soften and then dry and paint. Let the iodine dry a bit before you put her back and do not cover, at all. Iodine will burn if you cover it with a bandage. leave it out in the air.
