In the summer when it is almost 90 degrees everyday, would it be alright to put a small wading pool in their run? Just with 1-2 in. of water

My chickens love water, I make them little puddles and they run through them. We are making a pond for the ducks so I'm hoping the chickens will enjoy it too even if it's just to drink water from it.

You can put a wading pool in their run, there's no problem with it. Hopefully your chickens enjoy water too so that they can cool down during hot days!

It is an excellent way to cool them during the hot summer, many chicken keepers do it with great success. I have tried it myself, unfortunately only very few of them like to get in the water, I wish I could get them in the small pool, I even added some corn kernels but it didn't work. Go ahead and give it a try... you might get lucky and get them to stand in the pool to cool off.:thumbsup

That should be fine, I would add some bricks or something to make it easy to get in and out of.

I put water in large planter saucers, so they're very shallow and easy for the chickens to use and easy to clean out, but not all my chickens use them.

BIG(9x14x2") chunks of ice work best, IME....
lasts all day for wading, sitting, and sipping:
