My immune system can handle just about anything.

The news said it isn't called swine flu anymore. Instead is it a bunch of numbers and letters. H something. I was a bit worried I could get it since we have the landlord's hog barns here but they have been empty for 2 weeks now and I guess he is not getting a new load of hogs in until July.

H1N1. Refers to the type of proteins found on the virus surface, hemagglutinin and neuraminidase. These are the proteins that the virus uses to gain entry into your lungs. If you know the types, it's easier to make a vaccine because you can pull an H1N1 virus from a freezer instead of trying to culture the virus from people and purify it.

Pat, it's sort of a toss-up about the air quality. For sure, Mexico City residents' lungs are overworked, but OTOH, maybe they're so overstimulated that their immune systems have become more aggressive about fighting particulates? Dunno, both arguments sound reasonably plausible to me.

On one hand I agree...it's probably not much worse than the regular flu. However, my main concern is for my family...my mom gets the flu shot every year because she has severe asthma and a weak immune system...the flu could kill her. The flu shot she got will not protect her from this strain. Several people in my family have either auto-immune issues, asthma, cancer, etc. This flu has the possibility of causing a lot of problems for a lot of people until we can get a vaccine for it.

We are NOT panicking.........But we are staying home as much as possible. It's early yet, and if it is a pandemic we will know after the fact.

It's just that there's no vaccine for it and no one knows too much about it yet.

It will probably be the uninsured that die in the states. They can't afford to go to the doctor unless it's something really bad. So they will wait till it's too late.
