And their scratching in them!!! Is this ok? It's the 3rd day. They seem to be pecking at a piece every once in a while and eating it. Should I take them out and put paper towels back in? Did I switch over too soon? A good thing though, most of them are eating out of the feeders. Only a few are eating the little shavings bits.

The scratching around is normal.

Could it be they are finding loose crumbles that found their way out of the feeder rather than eating the shavings?

If you feel they are really ingesting too much, you may have to put them back on paper towels for another couple days. I've started chicks on shavings from day one with no problems, but my shavings were on the larger size.

The shavings are of all different sizes. Some are huge, some smaller, some look like saw dust.

I don't think there's any food around. I pulled up the paper towels, vac'd it out, and spread the shavings. I could have missed a few pieces but not very many.
