I have the vertical one, but want to switch to the horizontal ones. I find with the verticals I clean out the water everyday and I am always looking for a place to put down the bucket so the nipples don't get damaged. I think with the horizontal ones I can set the bucket anywhere on the ground. I just held about a 2 week old chick up to the nipple to peck and the rest just followed along, I still kept the ground water in for awhile just to make sure.
