swollen abdomen

I have a hen with a swollen abdomen. I need some suggestions as to what to do and what to look for. mkrassin

how old is she? is she laying?

Ascites(fluid in abdomen) can be due to liver failure, egg yolk peritonitis, internal laying are a few possibilities. None of these has a good prognosis. I had a hen with ascites and I gave her a warm bath and it helped to reduce the swelling and made her feel better. good luck

This hen is eating and drinking, she has a little bit of a hard time gertting around but she does., also get on the roost at night. If there is no hope for her. I probably should do the kind thing and get rid of her. . Thanks for your reply. mkrassin
