I have 6 chickens, 5 buff brahma and 1 bantam. The bantam chicken has been healthy until the last couple of days I've noticed it wasn't acting right. I let these chickens roam around the yard and they go in and out of their shelter as they please so I don not pay much attention to them I just give them fresh water everyday and feed them. I saw the chicken away from all the others so I walked up to it and it didn't run away as usual. It just sat there. I reached down and picked it up and it didn't even jump. Its feet are swollen up and one has turned black/blue and its eyes can't open. I have seen pictures of bumblefoot but this looks worse and with its eyes how they are I'm not sure what's up. Help????[/IMG][/IMG]

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. In 50 years of raising chickens, I don't think I've ever seen one with that combination of symptoms. You should immediately post this in our Emergencies, Diseases, Injuries, and Cures section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures. Hopefully one of our members will be able to diagnose the problem, and tell you how to treat it. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. I hope your bantam will be okay. Good luck.

Ok I put it on the emergencies page. Thank you

Oh my goodness, the poor thing! Good luck with him and hope he gets better soon!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! So sorry about your bantam, hope she recovers.

Is it possible it was bitten or stung by venomous snake or spider/insect? Being a bantam I would think it would suffer more than a larger bird that might tolerate some toxin.

Poor thing needs treatment ASAP or may not be diagnosed in time to save him.
