Hi, my Buff Orpington is broody right now and she is sitting on 3 fertilized eggs. When I went to check on her I notcied her eyes is stuck closed and swollen. She also has some bugs on her, like the reddish ones you see on plants and some small yellow ones. We think her eye is infected if so, what do we do? Please help!

The parasites are sucking the life out of her and being broody is not helping. She has lice and mites. You will want to treat her immediately with a Permethrin based poultry spray or dust. "Natural" remedies or DE will not be effective in this situation. http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1151513/pesticides-approved-for-poultry

Clean out the housing/nesting box where she is and treat those with the poultry spray/dust as well.
Repeat treatment in 7-10days to kill any remaining bugs.

The swelling of the eye could be from the parasite infestation-she may have some in her eye or she may have scratched it. Gently flush the eye with saline or sterile water, clean away the crust and apply a little Terramycin or Vetericyn eye gel in both eyes.

Your girl looks very ill to me. Try to get her hydrated, give her some poultry vitamins like Rooster Booster Poultry Cell or Poultry Nutri-Drench and see if you can get her to eat something.

How much longer does she have before the eggs hatch?
