We had winds over 40 mph for about a day and a half. My chickens just got a new bigger coop and the run is clean… three chickens (two silkies and a Cochin) have swollen and crusty faces. When I rub a cotton ball over it with wound spray, stuff flakes off, seems itchy? Noticed their ears are crusted too. Advice? The other 12 chickens are unaffected.

Is just the eye like this? I suspect a respiratory infection such as Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG) or Dry Fowl Pox. Any sneezing? Coughing? Nasal discharge?

I had those same thoughts but there is no sneezing and no nasal discharge, but ear discharge maybe?
Crusty yellow and sometimes black… faces and ears and eyes, and swollen

It is most likely a respiratory disease. Use a clean warm wet cloth as a compress for a few minutes, to moisten the eye crust and get it off. Eye wash from your pharmacy or saline cannflush the eye. When dry, apply either Terramycin eye ointment from a feedstore, or plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment to the eye twice a day. Try to express any pus from the eyelids. Clean the ear with a little hydrogen peroxide and clean out with QTips. Put some of the Neosporin ointment into the ear canal. Look for any mites or lice around the head, neck, and wings.

Thank you for your reply, I will try those things.
There is no nasal discharge, no sneezing or wheezing, and they eyes aren’t crusted… the crust is on the skin

two of them have pretty inflamed ears with pus now too

Follow up- for sure fowl pox as others have now developed the spots
However the original bird in question now has blocked ears and her face is so swollen I cannot see her eyes any longer

I have tried vet rx, antibiotic ointment, and now an anti microbial eye gel … everything seems to make it worse

advice appreciated

Follow up after vet visit
Dry pox and a secondary bacterial infection that covered their eyes and ears and facial skin
Needed a prescription and the scabs removed but it’s slowly getting better
