The vent on baby chicks has very delicate, thin tissue. If it gets irritated from cleaning or straining from constipation, it swells. It's painful.

Coconut oil smoothed on the vent soothes and helps heal the tissue. You can also use Preparation H to help shrink the tissue back to normal.

Make sure your chick isn't constipated. If it's straining when it poops, crying as it does it, you will need to get some mineral oil down it somehow.

i have been running slow Luke warm stream of water on her behind also removing left over feces that got gnahtted in her feathers also after im done i pat her dry and put some vaseline on her behind do you think this will help her?

You did good. Vaseline is better than nothing, but coconut oil has healing properties Vaseline lacks. It can be used externally and internally and is not toxic. Vaseline in large amounts is.

Coconut oil is so easy to get and so cheap, you should have some in the kitchen for cooking and in the medicine cabinet for injuries since it is a natural antibiotic. You can find it in the cooking oil section of the market and in the pharmacy.
