I had a mega scare with that last year. I gave her vet RX ($6 at Home Depot) under her wings, and changed the bedding. Turns out this one chicken was sensitive to the ammonia from their own droppings. I chucked her (well not literally) into my sick chick house (which is just a starter coop where I let sick ones rest) and she was good in three days. The chicken I had was a female Easter Egger, 2 years old, one eye was swollen shut, no other symptoms.

It's time to clean the coop. Hopefully that's it!

I hope so too! I was 14 then and tried to convince my mom to let me stay home from school 😂, in retrospect I think perhaps I was a little over concerned...
I do recommend the Vet RX stuff though, it is a little miracle worker on my hens! And the rooster too. Good ol Corn the roo

Swollen eye can be a sign of a respiratory disease such as mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG,) coryza, and sometimes other bacteria such as E.coli as a secondary infection or from something like a peck wound or foreign body infection. Is there bubbles or pus in the eye? Do you notice a bad odor from the face? I would flush the eye with saline and try to get any pus out of the eye. Then apply Terramycin eye ointment or Triple Antibiotic Ointment twice a day.
