My hens' bodies are all swollen to twice their normal size, and they walk a little slower, but they have no other symptoms. Does anyone know what this might be, and what to do about it?
Last spring they got this way too. I did a google search, and easily came to a discussion of this (bacteria-caused?) disease on some forum (I thought it was BYC). Some owners said they ignored it, some said they punctured their hens' skin (because the swelling was caused by a fluid buildup under the skin), some said they administered a certain drug which worked pretty well. At that time I chose the "ignore it" route. With one exception, the symptoms subsided after a couple of months. But since one hen did apparently die of it, this year I thought I'd try the drug route -- but, oddly, I can't find a single reference anywhere on the Internet.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
