swollen bottom w/ pic

Ok I had my Buff die months ago she had this same area it was awful... It had been there a little while didn't seem to bother her. One morning she was out all day like normal then late that afternoon couldn't be found.. found her very sick at the base of my deck steps that next morning... My husband quickly ran and got some broad spectrum antibiotics i put her in my dog kennel gave her meds w/ a syringe and also water.. With in a hour i heard this noise of her bocking and loud flopping around she died right there in front of me ! Did she die from this? or was she sick w/ something we didn't know that killed her.....I do have old pix on here of it... I was told it might be abdominal cancer? WTH is it I was never really told.. Now i noticed my leghorn KK chicken has a red area, no feathers under her belly... does anyone really know what this is? or what to do? I have another laying hen MY Honey.. Who I love deeply i am so afraid she is going to get it and may die..... It would kill me.. Is it mites? with secondary infection this crap with no feathers and red....??? How can I tell if mites or anything else? Oh here is the kicker... The Buff who died had quit laying eggs for a little while then would lay just a few here and there .. BUT were weird soft eggs.. Fart eggs its called i guess... Now with KK who has red no feather now... She hasn't laid a egg in a good long while many many months .. Is there some kind of common denominator with this you think? OH and KK acts perfectly healthy .. HELP HELP I need answers.!! PS... regarding the plucking feather thing.. That's not going on ! HELP

About my Buff who died a while ago with same looking red, no feathers on back stomach area. underneath that I talked about in my post a few Min's ago about concerning my KK leghorn.. I did post pix of the Buff when all that was going on with her.. it is about 3 of my posts back... Thx And HELP

My RIRs had similar problems. Quit laying, red bellies and tails, I found worms, and I knew they had mites. Gave them all a bath with mild salt water and dog flea shampoo. Gave them all Ivermectin, and a week later used the Wazine wormer. Also gave them Duramyacin-10 for 7 days. They all seem to be doing much better, and 3 of them have started laying again. One girl still lays the "fart eggs". I think her oviduct is damaged or deformed. I think my next go round with chickens will vaccinate them all against as many ailments as I can. I also plan to implement a wormer and mite program every 6 months.

I'm so happy that I've found this post because I've been stumped as to what was wrong with my Buff Orpington bare bright red bottom. I thought at first it was a prolapse but on further inspection I ruled that out. I've been soaking her and applying Preparation H to the reddened skin, the redness is gone now and apparently the roundness of her booty is the normal shape of a hens bottom.
