Molnut
Songster
Here is a picture of my little Spitzy. She hasn't been feeling well for a while, but seemed to be eating and participating in the flock. Except for an early bedtime, there was nothing dramatically wrong.
A week ago, I noticed her left check being very swollen. Her right nostril seemed plugged up with a brown hardened substance. It looked like a big seed.
I have been feeding them fermented feed and one of the dish had tipped over a couple of weeks ago. I had already taken her in to clean up her crest, but did not notice anything odd with her nostril at the time. I removed that plug. The inside part looked like cream cheese.
The inside of her cheek looks very nasty, a mix of yellow, greenish curds type. The same seem to come out of the other end, just more watery (sorry if I am a little too graphic).
Her left waddle, the swollen cheek side, looks like it has crusted parts. I put tri-antibiotic ointment on this and it seems to relax a little.
I have given her 1 ml of penicillin in her quart of water feeder for 4 days, along with yogurts and scrambled eggs.
I stopped the antibiotics and have been putting vitamins and electrolytes in her water. It's day 3 for that.
She is eating, but jas a hard time swallowing. She is drinking plenty.
What do you think it could be?
What else would you suggest I do?
Any timeframe or milestone I should observe?
Thanks a lot. She is my only Spitzhauben and I do care for her very much.
