My poor pullet has a swollen face and I dont know what happened. I thought maybe a bee stung her but I dont know. She is about 5 months old and she free ranges during the day with her friends. She is currently in the house so I can examine her again. She came to me this morning and let me know something was wrong and I looked for a sting or mark but saw none. My hubby said to let her go back out and see if it cleared up by itself as chickens tend to tend themselves but it hasnt changed since this morning when I first checked it. I dont know what the matter is but its swollen from under her neck under her right wattle and her entire right side of her face to the top of her head. Her eye is sealed shut and I have tried to open it to see if she scratched it or anything. She is acting like its not a bother other than she cant see on one side she preened herself in the bathroom and rubbed her hurt eye on her "preening gland" I am certain thats not the right word for it but (The gland at the base of her tail.)she seems to be acting normal right now she is looking for her chicken friends who are all outside on the roost.
Here are a couple pics of her face where its swollen.

Im on here looking for help! We came home to a dead hen last night after being away over the weekend. My mother checked on them Sat and one of the 2 barred rocks were in the nest box when she was here. One of them is who was dead. I thought egg bound. Now we have a rooster and another hen with a closed goopy eye. I just removed them from the coop and put them in a little pen in our basement to get them away from the others. I am not sure what is going on and if this goopy eye thing caused the first one to die. I hope this is not a coop wide issue but after seeing your pic, its similar to what we have going on. Hope someone can help!

No although she was doing a lot of preening and we have been dealing with torrential downpours this evening I brought her in after the first wave but she wasnt wet under her wings that I could tell. She seems to be doing better. Her eye started to open up by itself and the color is coming back to her right side of her face it had a little heat to it but I expected that with the swelling. I dont know what to do or what I can do other than let nature do its thing. I am going to wait and see how she does over night but I think that she had gotten a bee sting in the field this morning. I do hope that you are able to figure out what is wrong with your poor feathered baby too @Malissa and I am sorry for the loss of your other henny.

Thanks! We brought the 2 with eye issues inside to a pen in our basement. Hear the rooster so he's still good. Worried about prissy. Hope your little hen improves!

How are your 2 chickies doing? My little Ana's face has finally gone down in swelling and hasnt affected anyone else or her chickening abilities lol. She was able to see out of it the next day and seemed to function fine when she went back outside.
