hello! my i noticed my hen woud not open her one eye today. Her other eye is perfectly fine but the other is closed and kind of swollen just a little with what looks like a little discharge but im not 100% sure. wasnt able to get a pic today but looking for advice and thoughts. i listend to her lungs so it can't be respiratoy(no crackles or odd noises when i listened). i also tried to clean it a little with an eyewash saline solution. after that the eye was open like half way but she was keeping it closed a lot.

Good that you rinsed it out. I would get some Terramycin ointment or Neosporin (without painkiller) works too and put a little bit in her eye a couple of times a day. Terramycin is an antibiotic for eye infections so if she has one or is getting one, that or the other stuff should help.

It could simply be she got something in it or another chicken scratched her eye. Regardless, this treatment should help.

Do you have photos of the eye?

Flush and clean out the eye with saline, then put ointment like Terramycin in the eye, do this at least 2X a day.

Hard to know what's cause the swelling, possible she got something in the eye, had some type of injury or it could be respiratory illness. Hopefully with some TLC she will heal right up.

Watch to make sure she's eating/drinking well.

Last year Pekin pullet closed 1 eye and not active, and I found out that her friend was pecking at her eye so I took her inside, clean her eye with saline water and she was very quiet, eat little, but mostly resting.
After half a day she was ok moving a bit, her 1 eye was open a bit more so I put her back with her friend. Her friend pecked at her eye again, in the end I removed her completely only let them meet up with my supervision. I kept her inside until she was strong, wanting to get out, eat, moving a lot instead of resting. All was well when I let them together again, and after awhile it happened again and so the separation repeated. Back and forth until it was all good. Now that Pekin pullet is a hen and the leader of the bantam flock.

My case was simple.
